Arigna Mining Experience

Family Activities Near Boyle

Caves of Keash 

Based on archaeological inspections in the 1900s, early man lived in the Caves of Keash. There’s also evidence of bears, wolves and arctic lemmings. Legend says that Cormac Mac Airt, Ireland’s famous High King, was born by a well near the caves and while his mother slept, he was stolen by a group of wolves. He was later reunited with his family and ruled as King.

Bring your camera and take shots of the incredible caves. Look for Lough Feenagh on your journey, it’s shaped like the map of Ireland.

Eagles Flying

Ireland’s largest sanctuary for raptors and owls  a visit to Eagles Flying is a truly amazing experience for all the family, with something for young and old. Enjoy spectacular Interactive Bird Shows and meet the many adorable animals in their Petting Zoo. 

King House Museum & Cultural Centre 

Located in the heart of Boyle this beautifully restored Georgian mansion houses a number of exhibitions interpreting it’s history over a 300 year period. First built in 1730 as the seat of the King family, a powerful landowning dynasty, the house later became a military baracks and recruiting depot for the famouse Irish regiment of the British Army, the Connaught Rangers. The house is also home to the BOyle Civic Art Collection. 

Also located in the grounds of King House is a charming Craft Shop & Tourist Information Centre, along with King House Tea Rooms. Every Saturday the grounds also host the Courtyard Market where you can enjoy delicious local produce and shop wonderful local crafts.

Knockvicar Alpacas 

Don’t miss the opportunity to get up close to these cheeky but adorable animals in a relaxed family environment. Alpacas are of the camelid family and originate primarily from Peru but are also found in
Chile and Bolivia. These valuable animals that are called “the finest livestock investment in
the world” have been spreading across the globe from the late 80’s; the first animals arrived
in Ireland in 1999.

Lough Key to Boyle Cycle Trail 

This beautiful scenic cycle trail takes you from Lough Key Forest & Activity Park to the quaint historic town of Boyle. A perfectly safe cycle route for families which is suitable for all levels of fitness.
